Free Public Forum - South Africa's Fragile Democracy
Duncaster will host a free public forum about the fragile state of South Africa's democracy after the official end of apartheid Jan. 23.

Duncaster will host a free public forum about the fragile state of South Africa’s democracy 24 years after the official end of apartheid. The program will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 23 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. It is open to the public with preregistration.
The discussion will look at South Africa’s journey into democracy since its first election of the African National Congress in 1994. “The African National Congress won that election handily and Nelson Mandela became president,” said World Affairs facilitator Herb Hershenson. ”But, after that promising start, things have not gone so well. In this program, we will review the story of South Africa’s progress toward democracy and where it stands today.”
The discussion is part of Duncaster’s World Affairs Series, which is presented to the community by the residents of Duncaster on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month. Participants include Duncaster residents, as well as local citizens.
