It's for their town.

Youths are being asked to tell the story of West Hartford through the people who shaped it.
The United States of America turns 250 in 2026 and, to celebrate, the West Hartford Mayor's Youth Council and the West Hartford Public Library are hosting an essay contest to highlight the stories of significant historical figures in West Hartford.

How to Participate: Answer the question: "Which local historical figure has had an important impact on shaping West Hartford as we know it today?"
Describe how this person influenced the community in their time and explain how their legacy still affects life in West Hartford today, or connects to your own experiences.
· Grades 6-8: 250-500 words
· Grades 9-12: 500-750 words
Who Can Enter: West Hartford students in Grades 6-12 (must live or attend school in West Hartford)
Submission Deadline: April 4 at 11:59 pm
Announcement of Winners: Winners will be selected from each age group.
Prizes will be awarded at Celebrate West Hartford on Saturday, June 6. Winners and honorable mentions will be published in a commemorative booklet.
