One third of your life will be spent sleeping. Pull out your calculator and see for yourself how many hours you will be sleeping. I figured it out myself if I lived to the age of 72 - I will give you a hint; it's in the thousands of hours.
Now that we know we will spend thousands of hours over our lifetime on a mattress, it stands to reason that you would want that mattress to give you the best possible benefit. Sleep is vital as we all know, and here is a link that spells out the risks of poor sleep: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/08/sleep-deprivation_n_4557142.html?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000003
What's common?
The most common beds are the inner spring coil beds, air beds and water beds. Most familiar are the inner spring mattresses, no matter what brand or price point eventually those inner springs mattresses will break down. You will notice the tell tale "hills" and "valleys". Many of these mattresses will have varying degree of firmness on top of these springs depending on your sleeping preference. Many healthcare providers will recommend a firm mattresses, even though there is no science to back up their assertion that a firm bed is best.
The most recent scientific study out of Spain followed three hundred patients with back pain and the report showed that the best relief came from a medium firm mattress. The worst type of mattress would be a firm mattress of any make.
The best type of mattress would be a medium firm mattress, this is the firmness I recommend to our patients. And science and years of clinical practice have proven my recommendations true.
Type of Mattress?
Air, inner spring, water - as long as they are all medium firm and support the three major curves in your spine (cervical, thoracic and lumbar) then you will have an adequate bed.
Best of the rest! (pun I know)
We recommend Tempurpedic, because they meet our criteria 100% of supporting the three major curves and, medium firm, and last longer than traditional bedding systems. (In full disclosure I sell Tempurpedic pillows as well, and they are awesome as well - beds I send out to local bedding store)
Again, the medium firmness, along with the Tempur material modeling to your body due to your body heat and weight is the ultimate in custom bedding.
Have a great day!
