Group Plans Protest of New West Hartford Chick-fil-A Grand Opening

The protest has been dubbed the "LGBTQ Equality & Animal Rights Demo," according to the group's Facebook page.

WEST HARTFORD, CT - As hungry residents plan out their potential breakfast, a group of protesters are organizing for the grand opening of Chick-fil-A’s new West Hartford location Thursday morning.

The protest has been dubbed the “LGBTQ Equality & Animal Rights Demo,” according to the group’s Facebook page. The page says that 15 people are interested in going as of Wednesday morning.

The group is made of people who hope to educate potential customers on both LGBTQ and animal rights issues concerning the restaurant chain. Chick-fil-A has come under fire in the past for its support of groups that oppose same-sex marriage, as well as its treatment of its chickens.

Although the event is listed as taking place all day, protestors are focusing on breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“In 2014, one out of every four dollars the Chick-fil-A Foundation donated was given to an ultra anti-LGBTQ group, despite Dan Cathy's promises to "stay out of politics" and political issues,” the page reads. “Additionally, the meat Chick-fil-A uses could come from farms where birds can spend their entire lives in cages.”

The group is currently working on protest signs, as well as flyers to hand out to customers. Protesters currently plan not to be disrespectful or interrupt with customers' decisions eat at Chick-fil-A, but will offer literature that explains why they are protesting.
