Hartford Man Accused Of Hitting 2 West Hartford PD Cruisers In Stolen Vehicle Pursuit: Police

The incident on Friday started in West Hartford and ended on I-84, with the suspect being held on $300K bond.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Local police early Friday took a Hartford man into custody after a stolen vehicle pursuit that began in West Hartford and ended on Interstate 84, authorities said.

Police identified the suspect as Jahari Dorsey, 25, of Hartford, who is accused of striking two police cruisers during the pursuit.

Dorsey was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, third-degree larceny, fourth-degree criminal mischief, interfering with an officer, and engaging police in pursuit, among other charges.

Dorsey is being held on a $300,000 bond and was presented at Hartford Superior Court on Feb. 20.

According to online court records on Monday morning, Dorsey's case was continued to Tuesday, Feb. 24, where he will again appear in court.

According to Capt. Aaron Vafiades of the West Hartford Police Department, officers were alerted at approximately 2:43 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, by a license plate reader to a stolen vehicle near Park Road and Prospect Avenue.

Officers located the vehicle, a red Ford Focus bearing Connecticut registration BP30647, and attempted a motor vehicle stop.

The driver fled, striking two police cruisers, police said. Officers deployed tire deflation devices, but the vehicle continued onto Interstate 84 west from Kane Street.

The vehicle later lost control on I-84 west and struck a guardrail. The driver fled on foot and was apprehended a short time later with the assistance of a West Hartford police K-9 unit.

The vehicle had been reported stolen from New Haven, police said.
