Hartford Man Charged In West Hartford Bank Robbery: Police

The 54-year-old suspect was charged with robbing a bank branch last month.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A suspect from Hartford is in custody in connection with a reported bank robbery in West Hartford last month, West Hartford police said Wednesday.

According to the West Hartford Police Department, Harold Zene, 54, of Hartford, was charged with second-degree robbery and fifth-degree larceny on Sept. 6.

Police said Zene was unable to post his $150,000 bond and was transported to Hartford Superior Court that day for arraignment.

According to online court records, Zene is now being held on $75,000 bond and is expected in court on Oct. 21.

Police said at about 4:59 p.m. Aug. 19, officers were called to the Westfield Bank branch on 977 Farmington Ave. for a complaint of a bank robbery.

"It was reported that a male passed a note to a bank teller demanding money, and subsequently left the bank on foot after receiving an undisclosed amount of money," WHPD spokesman Lt. Ryan Riley said in a statement.

The West Hartford Police Department Detective Division assumed control of the investigation, police said..

Within days of the robbery, detectives identified and interviewed the suspect.

Police said an arrest warrant was sought and approved, charging the suspect for his involvement with the robbery.
