Hartford Man Charged In West Hartford Graffiti Spree

Suspect will appear in court Wednesday after his arrest last week.

WEST HARTORD, CT — A Hartford man will appear in Hartford Superior Court Wednesday to face charges he went on a graffiti spree in town last week.

According to a news bulletin issued by the West Hartford Police Department Tuesday afternoon, police have charged Alex Gonzalez, 22, of Hartford 16 Counts of third-degree criminal mischief.

He was released from custody on a $5,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

According to police, at approximately 11 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, the department received a report of a suspicious person in the area of the 200 block of Park Road.

A short time later, several members of the WHPD Community Support Unit located a suspect matching the initial description and observed him spray painting the side of a building behind 340 Prospect Ave.

The suspect was detained and admitted to spray painting numerous buildings and pieces of property in both West Hartford and Hartford.

In total, 16 buildings/businesses, light poles, electrical boxes and telephone poles were damaged in West Hartford.

According to images of the graffiti released by West Hartford police, it is unclear what the symbols and words spray painted mean.
