Harvest Hoedown At The 'Elmwood Acres' In West Hartford

In-house group Elmwood troubadours enact a south/western country improv show.

From Elmwood Senior Center: The Elmwood Senior Center, a division of the West Hartford Department of Leisure Services, will put on a luncheon and show,“Harvest Hoedown at Elmwood Acres,” written and directed by the in-house entertainment group “Elmwood Troubadours. The event will take place on Thursday, November 2, 2017 in the Ernest O. St. Jacques Auditorium. The doors will open at 11:30 a.m. for guests and lunch will be served at noon, accompanied by saloon music played on the baby grand piano. The 90-minute show begins at 12:30pm.

The show will feature talents ranging from singers to actors, and from imrov skits to specially-choreographed dances. The Auditorium will be transformed with sets made specifically for the show. The audience members play the townspeople of the fictitious town of “Elmwood Acres”. The Elmwood Troubadours’ cast of characters include: showgirls, Clint Westwood, Patsy Pines, Suzy Saloon, Rambling Bob (Town Storyteller and oldest person in town), Mayor (played by Elmwood Senior Center Director Kathleen Faroni), Deputy Mayor (played by Elmwood Senior Center’s Special Events Coordinator Lisa Hanse), The Sheriff (played by renowned performer Walter Martin) and Rhinestone Lil, played by the talented Ann Provera.

Among the many revelations that the Harvest Hoedown at Elmwood Acres will answer include, “How does Ms. Elmwood ‘Lose’ her Crown?”Everyone is invited to this event. Audience participation is encouraged in the form of singing or dancing along, as well as dressing in their cowboy/girl finest flannel. The audience will be responsible for “Awakening the Scarecrow.” Of course, spectators who prefer to solely observe, are certainly just as likely to have a great time!

The Elmwood Troubadours are a group of almost two dozen performers with differing talents, who enjoy a shared energy and perform approximately once a week in the greater Hartford area. The “Elmwood Troubadours” began as the group “Rocky Hill Review,” which formed over 20 years ago. The group was renamed “Elmwood Troubadours” a decade ago, and has been led for the last 3 years by LauraLee Howlett. Elmwood Senior Center is one of two Town of West Hartford senior centers and its motto is “Experience the Energy.” Throughout the year, Elmwood Senior Center hosts a variety of trips, classes and special events that are seasonal, entertaining, informative, and always FUN!
