In the United States alone, 1 out of 3 people suffer from high blood pressure, which translates to over 70 million people living with high blood pressure , as of 2012.  About half of these people do not know they are suffering from high blood pressure.  At these epidemic proportions, it is important for you to diagnose high blood pressure, prevent complications from high blood pressure and how to treat high blood pressure.

What are the health  risks of untreated high blood pressure hypertension?

If not treated, those with high blood pressure are at risk of suffering heart attacks, strokes or other cardio-related diseases. It is especially important for those living with co-existing conditions such as diabetes, coronary heart disease, heart attack and stroke survivors to be treated and to control their condition on a regular basis.

How do I control high blood pressure?

You can control the effects of high blood pressure. Unfortunately, many do not take the preventative steps necessary to do so. These steps include

• a heart healthy diet
• exercise
• controlling alcohol consumption
• creating a low stress environment
• practicing yoga or meditation
• not smoking

Of course there are also good, inexpensive medications your doctor can prescribe to control high blood pressure as well, if the steps above are not working.
