Learn To Prevent Suicide At West Hartford Program

The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District Sunday, May 19, is hosting a community dinner/training session on suicide prevention.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The local health department is hosting a special training program Sunday that could help folks save other peoples' lives.

The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District program is called "Ask a Question. Save a Life" and it aims to help people prevent suicides should they come across someone looking to harm themself.

It will take place at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2080 Boulevard, West Hartford, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 19.

A certified professional will train attendees in the QPR model of suicide prevention, namely, "question, persuade, and refer."

This three-step method to suicide prevention asks people to ask a person if they're OK; persuade them not to harm themself; then refer them to seek professional help."

In addition to the special, life-saving training, the program will also include a free community dinner for participants.

The program is free, but registration in advance is required.
