Learn To Save A Life With West Hartford Health Department
Free naloxone trainings on April 8 and 25 in West Hartford aim to prevent overdoses and educate residents.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District will host a series of free naloxone training sessions this month as part of a statewide overdose prevention initiative.
On Wednesday, April 8, the district will participate in "Save a Life Day," an effort focused on naloxone education and training across Connecticut.
Two sessions will be offered that day: one at 9 a.m. at West Hartford Town Hall, Room 400, and another at 12:30 p.m. at the health district office at 580 Cottage Grove Road in Bloomfield.

Organizers said the trainings are designed to teach residents how to recognize and respond to opioid overdoses.
Naloxone, commonly known by the brand name Narcan, is a medication that can reverse an overdose by blocking the effects of opioids on the brain and restoring breathing within minutes.

Additional sessions are scheduled for April 25 at local libraries.
Training will take place at 11 a.m. at Noah Webster Library, 20 S. Main St., West Hartford, and at 1 p.m. at Prosser Library, 1 Tunxis Ave., Bloomfield.
Participants will learn to identify overdose symptoms, administer naloxone, and understand protections under the state’s Good Samaritan Law.
Attendees at the April 25 sessions will receive a free naloxone kit and a $10 gift card to Geissler’s Supermarket.
Walk-ins are welcome for those events.
Residents can register for the April 8 sessions by calling the health district at 860-561-7901. Registration for the April 25 sessions is available through the respective libraries.
