Major Paving Project To Impact West Hartford, Hartford Traffic

WEST HARTFORD/HARTFORD, CT — A busy stretch of roadway linking West Hartford and Hartford is slated for resurfacing next week.

The state Department of Transportation the a milling and resurfacing project is on State Route 529 (New Britain Avenue) in West Hartford and Hartford from Route 173 (Newington Road) to Newington Avenue.

Milling has already been completed as that began last week and was supposed to take a couple of days..

The project will resurface a 1.33-mile segment of Route 529.

While milling is comoplete, the resurfacing segment of the project is slated to start Wednesday, Aug. 7, to Monday, Aug. 12, by Tilcon out of New Britain.

In conjunction with the milling, the roadway was restriped as one lane in each direction with a center two-way left-turn lane between the intersections of South Street in West Hartford and Newington Avenue in Hartford to enhance safety and provide increased shoulder widths for bicyclists.

The revised lane use will be evaluated before the resurfacing.

Motorists can expect lane closures in that area, with traffic control personnel and signing patterns guiding motorists through the work zone.

The night work schedule for this project will continue through to Monday, Aug. 12, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday – Friday.

"Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions," wrote officials.

"Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area."
