Man Charged With Burglarizing 2 West Hartford Homes
A resident pinned him to the ground until authorities arrived, according to police.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A local resident subdued and pinned a suspected burglar who allegedly entered a pair of homes Monday, one containing a 12-year-old boy who called 911.
The youth called police to report he believed someone was in his home on North Quaker Lane. He heard the door opening, someone rummaging through cabinets or drawers, and eventually the door closing, Sgt. Brett Balisciano said.
Police were on the scene moments later; upon their arrival, a neighborhood resident on Auburn Road, one street west of North Quaker, reported he had confronted a man who had burglarized his home and pinned him to the ground while he was trying to flee, Balisciano said.

Half of the units responded to Auburn Road and took the suspect into custody without incident, while the other half remained on North Quaker to ensure the first home was clear and the boy was safe, Balisciano said.
The suspect, Andrew Harris, 36, was charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, risk of injury to a child and sixth-degree larceny. He was held on $250,000 bond, which was amended to $100,000 by a bail commissioner prior to a court appearance Tuesday, Capt. Michael Perruccio said.

Harris was believed to be under the influence of narcotics, and took a backpack belonging to a resident of the first home, Balisciano said.
The resident who located the suspect sustained a scraped knee and was evaluated on scene by medical personnel, according to the sergeant.
