Man Robbed at West Hartford Church: Police

West Hartford Police are investigating two separate robberies that occurred over the weekend, including one at gunpoint on Friday night.

West Hartford Police are investigating two separate robberies that occurred over the weekend and are asking for the public’s help with any information.

The first incident occurred on Friday night (Nov. 27) around 10:30 p.m. in the area of Walbridge Road and Farmington Avenue in which two people were robbed at gunpoint, according to Lt. Ted Stoneburner.

The suspects fled toward Hartford on Farmington Avenue.

Stoneburner said police recovered a stolen Nissan SUV that they believe may have been involved in the robbery.

“We attempted to stop it during the event but lost the vehicle,” Stoneburner said. “We are processing the car for DNA and fingerprints at this time. We also have recovered evidence of other unrelated crimes within the vehicle.”

The suspects are two black males, around 15-20 years old, wearing dark clothing with hoodies pulled up over their heads.

Stoneburner said a handgun was also recovered in the area with other evidence.

The second robbery occurred at St. Thomas Church, 872 Farmington Ave., at about 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 29.

Stoneburner said a parishioner was walking to the rectory, from the church, when he was overpowered by the suspect. The victim sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital and released.

The suspect is a black male, 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black sneakers and “dickie” pulled up on his face.

Stoneburner said the suspect fled west on foot and was not located. An undetermined amount of money was taken from the victim.
