WEST HARTFORD, CT — The local community can see just how artistically talented West Hartford's schoolchildren are at a special, month-long event that starts Wednesday.

"Artbeat 2023" is a joint effort between the West Hartford School System and the West Hartford Art League and it starts with an opening reception Wednesday, March 8.

The reception takes place at the exhibit from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Saltbox & Clubhouse Galleries site, which is the headquarters of the West Hartford Art League, 37 Buena Vista Road, West Hartford.

Kathryn Aponte, a Sedgwick Middle School art teacher, said the opening reception is free, but attendees should bring much-need food donations to help the community.

"In addition to the evening celebration of extraordinary art and artists, non-perishable food items will be collected for the West Hartford Food Pantry at the gallery entrances," Aponte said.

Sedgwick said students from grades kindergarten to 12th-grade will have work on display.

The West Hartford Art League galleries are open Thursday to Sunday weekly from 1 to 4 p.m. or by appointment. For appointments, call the office at 860-231-8019.
