January 24, 2018—WEST HARTFORD, CT--William J. Fiocchetta, president and chief executive officer of The Mercy Community, West Hartford's only Life Plan Community, will retire effective July 1, 2018. He has served in the not-for-profit organization's stewardship role since 2005.
"When Catholic Health East and Trinity Health first joined forces as one company in 2013, Bill was instrumental in aligning senior services for the East Coast Region and, as that region continued to expand, Bill's knowledge and expertise was invaluable," said Steven Kastner, president and CEO of Trinity Health Senior Communities: The Mercy Community's parent corporation. For more than 40 years, Bill has been a leader in senior living services, holding several executive positions that include but are not limited to nine years as COO and Administrator of Church Homes in Hartford; nine years in executive positions at Sun Healthcare Group in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and for the last 13 years, President and CEO for Mercy Community Health in West Hartford.

In serving The Mercy Community, Bill has promoted its Mercy Mission and Core Values and implemented and refined its strategic vision. He advocates for seniors on the national scene through Trinity Health Senior Communities, and Statewide as Immediate Past Chair of both LeadingAge Connecticut's Board and that of the Connecticut Alliance for Long Term Care. Bill is Chair of the Board of Community Solutions, Inc.: a nonprofit organization that promotes self-reliance, responsibility, and accountability for at-risk and disadvantaged youth and adults.
According to Mr. Kastner, Bill steered Mercy Community Health through the turbulent national recession in the early 2000s, made a smooth path for transition when Catholic Health East consolidated with Trinity Health in 2013, took on interim leadership of The McAuley from 2014-2017, and has served as the voice of continuing care during the recent formation of Trinity Health of New England. Bill managed the 2016 integration of Waterville, Maine's Mount Saint Joseph Residence and Rehabilitation into the Mercy Community Health portfolio. In his role as the organization's fundraiser-in-chief, Bill has supervised the capital campaigns for the remodeling of the Archbishop John F. Whealon Chapel of Our Lady of Mercy, the creation of Saint Mary Home's "Secret Garden," (a tie-in with the community's thriving arts therapy initiatives,) a Palliative Care Center, the restoration of the bell towers at Saint Mary Home, The Maureen M. Reardon, RSM, Ph.D. Labyrinth, and upgrades to the interiors of both The McAuley and The Frances Warde Towers Apartments at Saint Mary Home. Mr. Kastner said: "I especially want to take this opportunity to thank Bill for his leadership and contributions to Trinity Health Senior Communities, Trinity Health New England, and Trinity Health overall."
Trinity Health Senior Communities has been conducting a national search for a leader of its senior living communities within the New England Region. Mr. Kastner hopes to announce Bill's successor later this winter.
