WEST HARTFORD, CT — An upscale pizza chain that opened with much aplomb a year ago appears to have shuttered quickly.

In July 2022, Oath Pizza, a chain out of Boston, Mass., opened a new franchise at Blue Back Square with great fanfare with town officials, local business leaders and company representatives cutting the ribbon and getting ready to serve up natural, home-made pies.

Less than a year later, however, the franchise at Blue Back Square, which is located at 65 Memorial Road, appears to be no more.

The storefront is covered in paper and it is empty, meanwhile, phone calls to the eatery go unanswered, outside of the standard phone company recording stating the "call cannot be connected."

Meanwhile, the company's website no longer includes West Hartford among its locations.

A representative of Blue Back Square's marketing arm confirmed Oath's closure, but deferred comment to Oath Pizza, which couldn't be reached for comment.

Oath Pizza first opened in a seaside shop on Nantucket Island in 2015. Today, the brand has expanded nationwide.

Currently, it has 11 restaurants, most of them in Massachusetts, along with seven university locations at colleges spread out across the U.S.

As to why Oath Pizza shuttered in West Hartford, not much has been publicly disclosed.

Reportedly, the owners of Blue Back and Oath are involved in a legal dispute regarding back rent, a situation addressed in a court filing last month, according to We-Ha.com.

The restaurant industry, in general, has struggled mightily during and after the pandemic, with inflationary and supply chain issues challenging both profitability and staffing levels for many eateries, with many others closing as well.
