New Restaurant Opens in West Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Celebrated Chef Prasad Chirnomula, of Five Star Restaurant Group [Thali, Thali Too, Oaxaca, INDIA New Canaan], will open his second INDIA location, in West Hartford’s Blue Back Square on Friday.

INDIA Restaurant & Bar in West Hartford will immerse guests in a true global dining experience as fine dining Indian cuisine meets Western small plates in a French inspired setting, according to a release.

INDIA Restaurant & Bar is a small, intimate space with a modern yet relaxing vibe. Bright red booths offer a welcoming pop of color to the black and white French motif wallpaper, while traditional Indian influences like the hand painted Indian style rug and his mother’s very own sari adorns the back dining room.

The space features an open kitchen concept where guests can view first hand the creative ways in which Chef Prasad infuses fresh and exotic ingredients into artistic cuisine, while welcoming guests to enjoy the sounds, smells and sights of cooking.

The menu at INDIA Restaurant & Bar is similar to that of its predecessor in New Canaan, offering locally sourced (when in season) fresh farm-to-table ingredients and traditional Indian cuisine from various regions throughout India.

Signature dishes like Chicken Tikka Masala, Vindaloo and Lamb Chops, along with their exquisite Tandoori breads are being welcomed back to INDIA Restaurant & Bar’s menu, while new distinguishable differences can be found in dishes like crispy baby kale chaat drizzled with tamarind and date chutneys. Also featured is street food such as Paani Poori, delicately made warm Konkan crab tempered with mustard seeds, curry leaves and fresh grated coconut, Portuguese style piri piri shrimp and street food style goat tacos and chargrilled tandoori chicken wings.

Chef Prasad Chirnomula has been impressing the restaurant industry and guests alike for over 30 years with his take on traditional fine dining Indian cuisine. After much success in opening INDIA New Canaan in April, 2016, Chef Prasad looked to expand his restaurant group into the Hartford County market.

“With Thali, Thali Too, and Oaxaca restaurants in New Haven, and INDIA New Canaan in Fairfield County, it just seemed natural to expand to the Greater Hartford market with our most recent establishment, and what better town than the foodie destination of West Hartford," Prasad said in a release. “Hartford County is a new home for me, and I want to embrace the community with open arms, to welcome my fellow restaurateurs, chefs, and the community at large, to be a part of my family network and involve them in INDIA as best I can.”

INDIA Restaurant & Bar is located at 54 Memorial Road in West Hartford’s Blue Back Square, open seven days a week.

Lunch: 11:30am – 2:30pm (Beginning Christmas Eve, Dec. 24)

Dinner: Monday – Thursday 5–9:30pm

Dinner: Friday & Saturday 5–10:30pm

Dinner: Sunday 4–8:30pm

Brunch: Sunday 11:30–2:30pm (Beginning Christmas Day, Dec. 25)

Happier Hours take place 7 days a week between 5-7 p.m.
