Noah Webster House Exhibits Works by Christopher Strauss

The hosted an opening reception to present the original works of West Hartford artist Christopher Straus on March 11, 2012.

Christopher graduated from Hall High School in 2007 and from the WAAVE program in 2010. His ability to paint was discovered during his high school years and has continued to develop. He has taken classes at the West Hartford Art League and participated in student shows at both the high school and the art league. Christopher made his professional art debut at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme in July 2011. His work was well received and he sold several paintings, prints and cards. His work can also be currently seen at the Kerri Gallery in Willimantic, CT.

Christopher is an individual with special needs who has delays in motoric and mental domains. When you look at his work you could never tell that he spent years learning to print as a young person. Chris’ patient, small brushstrokes reveal his attention to detail, and his color choice draws the viewer into his pieces. His note cards are being picked up for sale in a major boutique retailer and should be in stores in a few weeks.

Chris looks forward to expanding his business with a website soon and is proud of being able to hire his peers at FAVARH volume mail service to be able to package his cards. Chris is currently working at Michael’s Arts and Crafts in Avon, CT.

Christopher’s paintings will be at the museum until the middle of May and can be seen Thursday through Sunday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society at 227 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT. The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society is located in the restored birthplace and childhood home of Noah Webster. Webster was a national figure known not only for the first American dictionary and the Blue-Backed Speller, but also for being a federalist, an abolitionist and a cofounder of Amherst College.
