Officials Trying to Get Drivers to Slow Down on I-84 East in West Hartford

Drivers can expect more signage warnings, patrols to curb speed in area where two fatal crashes took place last month.

In response to two fatal crashes on I-84 East in West Hartford last month, the Department of Transportation will be adding new signs warning drivers about the dangers of speed and the curves and new patrols will be added to try and get people to slow down, according to NBC Connecticut.

State Representative Joe Verrengia (D-West Hartford) recently called for a meeting with the DOT and local officials and in that meeting he was told there was nothing wrong with the banks of the curves or the anti-skid surface of the road and no pattern of crashes and speed was the biggest factor, according to NBC.

Verrengia, who is also a police sergeant in West Hartford, told NBC that drivers can expect that there will be “additional traffic enforcement, so my message to drivers going through there is, slow down.”
