Thanksgiving Eve Inferno In West Hartford Critically Injures Person

The individual was taken to an area hospital in critical condition Wednesday night.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A person was rushed to the hospital following a serious fire in West Hartford on Thanksgiving Eve.

According to WFSB Channel 3, the fire, believed to have happened on a couch, caused "life-threatening" injuries and resulted in the victim initially being in critical condition.

No update on the victim's condition was available Friday morning.

According to West Hartford Firefighters Local 1241, the blaze was reported at 9:09 p.m. Wednesday night.

Firefighters said the blaze, which West Hartford Police said was on Thomas Street, was initially reported as a lifeline activation, which "turned out be be a house on fire."

When West Hartford police and firefighters arrived, they found smoke and fire at the front of the single-family home, the union wrote in a Facebook post.

According to firefighters, responders "worked quickly to simultaneously extinguish the fire and conduct a search for reports of an occupant inside."

Ultimately, one person was taken to a nearby hospital by WFHF paramedics and an ambulance crew.

"The fire was brought under control, confining it to the place of origin," wrote firefighters. "This fire is still under investigation and we wish the occupant a full recovery and best wishes to all those affected."

West Hartford firefighters thanked all responders, including Hartford Fire Department units that provided mutual aid.

West Hartford police said via Twitter that Thomas Street was closed in both directions Wednesday night from Price Boulevard to Oakwood Avenue.

The area has, since, reopened.
