Plea Agreement Reached In West Hartford Arson Case

A woman pleaded guilty to a reduced charge and will be sentenced to prison after an agreement was reached Monday in Hartford Superior Court.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A West Hartford resident arrested after setting her Lockwood Terrace apartment on fire last year pleaded guilty to a reduced charge Monday in Hartford Superior Court.

Shamieka Hinton, 41, had originally been charged with first-degree arson after intentionally setting blanket on fire and burning a hole through the floor of her apartment on Oct. 18, 2018. Under terms to the agreement, she pleaded guilty to third-degree arson, the Hartford Courant reported.

Hinton will be sentenced to nine and a half years in prison, suspended after two and a half years, followed by five years' probation. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 13, 2020, and she remains in custody in lieu of $250,000 bond, according to judicial records.
