Popular West Hartford Restaurant Closed After Fire: WHFD

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A well-known West Hartford restaurant was shuttered Sunday morning after local firefighters tended to a fire there.

The fire at the Blue Plate Kitchen on North Main Street on Sunday morning was largely extinguished by the restaurant's automatic sprinkler system before firefighters arrived, according to the West Hartford Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to the restaurant at 345 N. Main St. at approximately 8:18 a.m. after a report of smoke inside the building.

Crews from Ladder 4 arrived to find smoke throughout the restaurant and determined the building's sprinkler system had activated.

Firefighters located a small fire in a storage closet and quickly extinguished the remaining flames after the sprinkler system had already knocked down most of the fire, the WHFD wrote in a release.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

The WHFD said the Blue Plate Kitchen will remain temporarily closed while cleanup and restoration work is completed.

Neighboring business Float 41was also affected by the incident and will also remain temporarily closed.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal's Office.

The West Hartford Police Department, West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District, and West Hartford Building Department also responded to the scene.

UConn Health Center Fire provided station coverage while West Hartford crews were operating at the fire.

In a statement following the incident, the West Hartford Fire Department reminded business owners and property managers that properly maintained automatic sprinkler systems can significantly reduce fire damage and help protect occupants until firefighters arrive.
