NEW HAVEN, CT — A pair of longstanding State Open indoor track records went by the wayside Saturday, including another standard established by Stanford-bound Gavin Sherry of Conard High School in West Hartford.

Sherry ran the 1600 meters in 4 minutes, 11.19 seconds, shaving nearly two seconds off the previous mark of 4:13.29, established by Willie Ahearn of Danbury in 2008. He also won the 3200 meter run.

In the shot put, Gary Moore Jr. of Hillhouse broke an even older record by nearly two feet, with a heave of 63 feet, 11.25 inches. Andre Reid of South Windsor had held the mark of 62-02 since 2001.
