Resident Rushed To Hospital After Kitchen Fire: West Harford FD

The person was taken to Hartford Hospital after suffering 'serious' burns while battling the blaze Friday night, fire officials said.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — An occupant of a single-family residence in West Hartford was seriously burned in a kitchen fire Friday night.

According to the West Hartford Fire Department Saturday morning, units were called to 18 Lawler Road at 9:19 p.m. Friday for a report of a fire in the kitchen.

"Upon arrival fire crews found a kitchen fire that was partially out due to extinguishment attempts by an occupant," wrote WHFD Chief Greg Priest.

"The remaining fire was extinguished by fire department personnel and the area was thoroughly overhauled to ensure no hidden fire was left undetected. "

Priest said the occupant sustained "serious burns to their hand" while trying to put out the blaze.

Fire department paramedics and EMS personnel from American Medical Responded treated and transported the occupant to Hartford Hospital, he said.

The West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office was on-scene to investigate and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

At the time, the West Hartford police kept the area closed off the traffic, but Lawler Road is now reopened.
