School Nurse In West Hartford Named Best In State
The high school nurse previously spent 20 years working in the emergency room and is now the nurse at one of West Hartford's high schools.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The school nurse at a West Hartford Catholic high school was named the state's top school nurse by a major state organization.
According to the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District, Beth Bornstein — the nurse at Northwest Catholic High School in West Hartford — was selected as the "Nurse of the Year" by the Association of School Nurses of Connecticut.

According to the health department, the award is presented to a nurse "who works above their expected professional role in collaboration with nursing colleagues, school administration, faculty, and students to maximize their educational experience by being a leader in school health."
She will be honored for her professional work and dedication at the ASNC Spring Dinner Meeting, “Celebrating CT School Nurses,” on Wednesday, May 8, which is National School Nurse Appreciation Day.

She works for the health district, a role she's had since 2015, and was assigned to Northwest Catholic High School.
Bornstein obtained her National Board Certification for School Nursing from the Nation Association of School Nurses.
Before joining the health district, she was an emergency room and intensive care unit nurse for 20 years.
