Set short term, attainable goals and watch yourself succeed in 2014!

This New Year I am committing to not over committing and that goes for my workouts as much as it does my engagements outside of work.  I, like so many others set unattainable goals for myself, committing to working out 5-6 times a week and eating no sugar, and drinking no alcohol. This all or nothing approach never works and this year I am setting attainable fitness goals for myself and I urge you to do the same. Rather than setting year long goals I am setting short term goals. Deciding to lose 5 pounds by my birthday in April seems a lot more do-able and concrete than saying I am going to be in the best shape ever by the end of 2014.

We see clients come in and shoot for 5 workouts a week only to burn out after 5-6 weeks.  I say again and again, commit to 3 workouts a week and if you can add a 4th...AWESOME.  I am committing to 4 WIP workouts a week and ideally a 5th workout in the form of yoga, running, skiing or surfing.  Considering I work at a gym it is a little easier for me to get my workouts in.  One of the best ancillary benefits of owning a gym.  The workout component has always been easier than the nutrition piece for me, and I know that diet is a huge piece of my overall fitness health.  So, I have also decided to allow myself alcohol 4 nights a week and a small sweet everyday, but only once a day.  Just like I do with my workouts I will be planning my drinking nights based on my social schedule for the week; when I have a schedule, I am always more successful.

This article from fitday gives tips on setting your own attainable goals. Set your short term attainable goal today and I will see you at a workout soon.

Happy New Year,Mary Kate
