South Windsor school officials are investigating allegations that its fans sang an anti-Semitic chant during a boys’ soccer game Wednesday against Hall High in West Hartford, which has a large Jewish population, according to NBC Connecticut.

Witnesses told NBC Connecticut that people from the South Windsor side of the stands were singing part of the “Dreidel Song,” which is traditionally sung during Hanukkah.

NBC reports that only part of the song was chanted and parents said that they did not hear other anti-Semitic taunts for the rest of the game.

South Windsor Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kate Carter sent NBC Connecticut the following statement:

“Thank you for bringing this serious matter to our attention. We hold our students to very high standards and a thorough investigation will be conducted immediately.”

On the field, Hall won the game by a 3-1 score. The teams are not scheduled to play again in the regular season.
