Special 5K Event In West Hartford To Aid Brain Tumor Research

The Connecticut Brain Tumor Alliance is hosting its 10th annual Path of Hope 5K on Saturday, May 6, at Elizabeth Park in West Hartford.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — With May being Brain Tumor Awareness Month, one Connecticut organization dedicated to battling the affliction is hosting a major fund-raising event in West Hartford this Saturday.

The Connecticut Brain Tumor Alliance (CTBTA) is hosting its 10th annual Path of Hope 5K event on Saturday, May 6, at Elizabeth Park in West Hartford, 1561 Asylum Ave., West Hartford.

The event aims to raise funds and awareness for the organization, which provides hope and support to brain tumor patients and caregivers.

The Path of Hope 5K is a walk/run event dedicated especiall to families.

According to the event's website, its goal is to raise "funds and awareness to support the brain tumor community, celebrates survivorship, and honors those whom we remember."

Meanwhile, one Hartford insurance agency taking part in the Path of Hope is hoping for community support that could add to the amount of money it is donating to the cause.

Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance have awarded Shimkus, Murphy & Lemkuil, Inc. of Hartford a 2023 Make More Happen Award for its volunteerism with CBTA.

The award includes an initial donation of $5,000 for CTBTA, which can be doubled to $10,000 just by having community supporters vote online, according to the company.

“The CTBTA is making a difference by providing hope, support, and community for patients and their caregivers in Connecticut,” said Susan Lemkuil, executive vice president of Shimkus, Murphy & Lemkuil, Inc.
