Speeder Nabbed Going 93 MPH In 40 Zone: West Hartford PD
West Hartford's ongoing battle to combat dangerous driving comes after five people were killed in separate incidents in December.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — The Town of West Hartford and its police department are serious about their quest to improve traffic and pedestrian safety in town.
One month after the West Hartford Town Council officially embarked on an organized initiative to combat a rise in accident fatalities in town, local police Tuesday showed what they're up against.
According to the WHPD, members of the department traffic division Tuesday morning clocked a motorist going 93 mph in a 40 mph zone near the peak of Avon Mountain on Albany Avenue.

As a result, police stopped the motorist and charged the driver of the Acura TL with reckless driving and speeding, police said.
This comes less than two months after five people were killed in separate incidents on West Hartford roads in the lead-up to Christmas, including three killed ina Christmas Day, double fatal, head-on collision.

The situation prompted the town council last month to embark on what's called the "Vision Zero" initiative, an open pledge of law enforcement, municipal policy and public relations — all with the desire to stop fatal and serious-injury incidents on local roads.
The department issued a word of warning to anyone driving locally.
"The traffic division routinely conducts speed enforcement on town roads," wrote the WHPD. "Traveling at such high speeds endangers everyone. Please be considerate on the roadways for other motorists, pedestrians and cyclists."
