Stay Cool, Stay Safe, West Hartford FFs
The West Hartford firefighters union has issued information to the community on coping with the extreme heat this week.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — Local firefighters are urging the community to look out for themselves and one another during another potential heat wave this week.
West Hartford Firefighters Local 1241 posted information Tuesday on what folks can do to brave the temperatures and humidity expected through Friday.
"It is going to be very hot and humid over the next few days," wrote the firefighters union. "Take care of yourself and your loved ones."

Earlier this week, Gov. Ned Lamont has activated the "Extreme Hot Weather Protocol" until Friday and many towns activated their cooling centers.
West Hartford doesn't have any organized list of cooling centers, but the town has said its libraries and senior centers are always open in case folks need a place to chill.

Also, West Hartford has urged people go inside the Westfarms Mall when the mercury rises to oppressive levels.
As for the firefighters, they offered up some heat stroke prevention tips that include:
• Pay attention to the heat and modify activities accordingly.
• Constantly keep drinking fluids and don't wait until thirsty. Avoid alcohol.
• Wear loose-fitting, lightweight and light-colored clothes.
Firefighters said some of the warning signs of heat or sun stroke are muscle cramps, dilated or constricted pupils, confusion or disorientation and headache, nausea and vomiting.
They said in worst-case scenarios, heat stroke can, even, be life-threatening.
The firefighters union said to find a list of cooling centers call 211 or visit 211ct.org.
