Tense Standoff Ends Peacefully In West Hartford

Police were called to Hillcrest Avenue Friday afternoon to address reports of projectiles going into an apartment, with a standoff ensuing.

WEST HARTFORD, CT ֫— No one was injured at a Hillcrest Avenue apartment after a resident was barricaded inside as police investigated a tense incident there Friday afternoon.

According to the West Hartford Police Department, at about 2:40 p.m. Friday, police were sent to Hillcrest to investigate "a report of possible projectiles entering an apartment and causing wall damage."

No injuries were reported, but as officers attempted to make contact with the resident of the neighboring unit at 161 Hillcrest Ave., the individual barricaded themselves inside and refused to speak to police, according to the department.

"In an effort to safely resolve the situation and prevent any harm to the residents in the area, Hillcrest Avenue between Stevens Street and Abbotsford Avenue was closed to all pedestrian and vehicular traffic until the situation was resolved," wrote West Hartford Assistant Chief of Police Lawrence A. Terra in a statement Friday night.

Police said the West Hartford Emergency Services Unit assisted by the Capitol Region Emergency Services Team, West Hartford Police patrol officers and detectives, as well as West Hartford Fire Department and AMR Ambulance, were "instrumental in bringing this situation to a safe resolution."

Police did not have any additional information, including whether an arrest was made or what was the nature of the wall damage.

According to police, this incident remains under investigation by the West Hartford Police Department.
