Thieves Steal Kiosk From Iwo Jima Memorial

Wednesday August 29th

A kiosk was taken from the site of the Iwo Jima Memorial on Ella Grasso Boulevard in New Britain, police discovered Tuesday. The memorial statue itself was not vandalized or damaged, police said.

The kiosk was removed, without permission, from the Iwo Jima Historical Foundation site several days after it had been vandalized. On Aug. 25, a lockbox at the memorial was found smashed, police said.

Though the memorial statue is in Newington, the associated kiosk is in New Britain and the city’s police department will handle the investigation, according to authorities.

Police asked anyone with information to contact Det. Radek Sztachelski at 860-826-3143.
