Two West Hartford Fires Prompt WHFD Community Response

With two blazes in one week, the West Hartford FD Tuesday will be out in two neighborhoods to discuss fire safety with residents there.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Two separate fires in the past week have West Hartford firefighters fanning out Tuesday evening to visit with residents and distribute vital, life- and property-saving advice.

The West Hartford Fire Department said Monday it is "taking proactive steps to increase fire safety in our community."

As a result, staff members will be in the area of Steven Street, then Kane Street, on Tuesday, March 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. to conduct neighborhood outreach.

The visits come as residents of two neighborhoods watched firefighters swarm separate fires in the past week that, thankfully, didn't seriously injury anyone or take lives.

But they could have been worse.

On Sunday, March 10, a kitchen fire erupted at a Kane Street condominium and destroyed the unit's interior.

Meanwhile, on March 6, an apartment unit inside a building on Steven Street was destroyed by fire, displacing the apartment's occupants.

The WHFD said it plans on meeting with folks informally in those areas to discuss what happened and what can be done to prevent fires in the future.

"Your safety is our top priority, and we're here to ensure that every member of our community feels safe, secure, and supported," wrote the WHFD via social media.
