UHart President Taking Leave To Be At Wife's Side
The University of Hartford president is taking a break from his duties at the school to care for his wife amid serious medical concerns.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — University of Hartford President Gregory Woodward is taking a temporary leave to spend more time with his wife amid increased medical concerns.
The school made the announcement this week.
Woodward’s wife, Penny, has been fighting leptomeningeal carcinomatosis for the past three years and, her condition recently entered a "more critical stage," according to university officials. She is receiving hospice care at home, they added.

"At this time, President Woodward is going to take time away from his daily duties to be with Penny and their children," UHart officials said.
In the interim, UHart Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Fred Sweitzer and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Mark Boxer will serve as "co-leaders" until Woodward's planned return later this fall, according to university officials.

"I know you share my support and concern for Penny and the Woodward family during this very difficult time," Board of Regents Chair David Gordon shared in a message to the campus community. "We look forward to welcoming President Woodward back later in the semester. Please join me in sending them our collective strength, love, and prayers."
