USJ Gala Honors Educators, School's 90th With Big Name

A top official in President Joe Biden's administration was the keynote speaker at a University of Saint Joseph gala in Hartford June 2.

WEST HARTFORD/HARTFORD, CT — The University of Saint Joseph recently celebrated both educators and the West Hartford university's 90th anniversary with a member of the Biden Administration present.

The university June 2 hosted its annual gala which, this year, was entitled "Imagine... The Sky's the Limit for the Future of our Educators" at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

The Keynote speaker was U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, who was once Connecticut's education commissioner. He is a native of Meriden.

Cardona was the event's keynote speaker before more than 450 guests, with $250,000 raised to provide scholarships for USJ students pursuing a teaching license and to upgrade educational technology.

Also speaking at the event was current Connecticut Education Commissioner Charlene Russell-Tucker, who spoke to the future of educators and their importance in all our lives.
