Vehicle Crashes Onto Fire Station Property In West Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A Tuesday crash sent a vehicle careening toward a firehouse in West Hartford, police said.

At 3:30 p.m., West Hartford police received a report of a motor vehicle accident on Mildred Road. Police determined that a vehicle traveling east on Mildred Road and left the road for an unknown reason, police said.

The vehicle then entered the property of the West Hartford Fire Department's Station 5 and struck a generator, a monument at the fire department and a fire hydrant, according to police.

The Fire Department was able to quickly shut off a gas line that fed the generator, police said.

Connecticut Natural Gas and the Metropolitan Water District sent crews out for repairs. Berkshire Road was closed temporarily while the work was being done.

The driver of the vehicle occupant appeared to be uninjured but was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated, police said.

The accident remains under investigation.
