WeHa FD Bids Adieu To Assistant Chief

The Glastonbury resident is moving on to be emergency management chief for a network of hospitals in Massachusetts.

WEST HARTFORD/GLASTONBURY, CT — A key official with the West Hartford Fire Department has left for a new career move, with the local community recently paying tribute to him.

WHFD Assistant Chief Hugh O'Callaghan, a resident of Glastonbury, officially left the department last week for a new career endeavor, with family and friends gathering at the Rockledge Grille on Feb. 8 at a special goodbye event.

O'Callaghan is moving on to work at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass., where his new title will be emergency management director.

In that capacity, he will oversee emergency management operations for the five hospitals in that network, according to the WHFD.

O’Callaghan joined the West Hartford Fire Department in March 2019 and also served as deputy director of emergency management.

Before joining West Hartford, he was a house captain with the Hamden Fire Department for nearly 20 years and also served with the Norwich Fire Department and Hartford Police Department.

He was named Firefighter of the Year in Hamden in 2015 and 2017.

O’Callaghan lives in Glastonbury with his wife and two daughters.
