WeHa Park Projects To Help Local Fishermen
Two prominent West Hartford parks are getting much-needed waterway projects done to help local fishermen.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Two local parks will get much-needed work done this year in separate projects that should have local fishermen smiling.
The West Hartford Town Council at its last meeting on Jan. 23 approved accepting $75,000 from the John G. Martin Foundation for major renovations at Westmoor Park and Spicebush Swamp Park.
Council members unanimously approved the grant receipts and projects with no discussion, with the matter approved via the meeting's consent agenda, which includes various other, smaller, items of business.

The grant was sought by the West Hartford Department of Leisure Services.
Westmoor, located at 119 Flagg Road, is home to two ponds created from the waters of Hart Meadow Brook, which is a tributary to Trout Brook.

The grant will fund the creation of two floating docks at the ponds which will provide easier access for fishermen and educational activities utilizing the pond.
Prior docks at Westmoor were rusted and, in the words of town officials, "unusable."
Meanwhile, the grant funding will also include the building of a waterside fishing platform at Spicebush Swamp Park off Mountain Avenue.
The prior fishing platform, which provides visitors with a safe place to cast a line, was taken down as part of a 2021 pond-dredging project and this would replace it.
The foundation is based in West Hartford and it supports causes in north-central Connecticut dealing with education, public service, the arts, and recreation;
Funding for these projects will be in the current recreation budget and the hope is to get the project done as soon as possible.
