WeHa PD Urges Railway Crossing Safety
The West Hartford Police Department is participating in 'Rail Safety Week' activities by urging awareness of the dangers of railways.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — As the town continues its push for pedestrian and motorist safety, the West Hartford Police Department this week is engaging in a campaign for rail safety.
According to the WHPD, Sept. 18-24 is Rail Safety Week.
As a result, the WHPD is working in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies, such as the Amtrak Police Department, to educate folks about the dangers on railways and railway crossings.

The initiative is called "Operation Clear Track" and the WHPD is collaborating with Operation Life Saver Inc., a national nonprofit promoting railroad safety.
"This initiative raises awareness and enforces railroad grade crossing and trespassing laws across the country," wrote the WHPD.

Earlier this week, officers were actually seen at railroad crossings in West Hartford passing out flyers and other "rail safety messages with our community," wrote the WHPD."
The goal of Rail Safety Week’s 'Operation Clear Track' is to reduce pedestrian and driver injuries and fatalities around railroad tracks through increased public awareness," wrote police.
