WH Council OKs $6M To Fund Affordable Housing Ventures
Creating more affordable housing in West Hartford is a key component in the town's plan of conservation and development.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — In the final month of 2022, local leaders approved using federal America Rescue Plan Act funds to, possible, enable folks to be able to live in West Hartford in upcoming years.
The West Hartford Town Council, at its last regularly scheduled meeting of the past year, voted 9-0 to appropriate $6 million in federal ARPA dollars toward its "Affordable Housing Support Program."
According to town officials, the aim of the funding is to address the general lack of affordable housing available in West Hartford and support the construction of new affordable housing developments."

This ideal is part of the town's 2020-30 plan of conservation and development, which aims to have the town encourage and promote creation of affordable housing in town.
West Hartford attorneys have reviewed the proposal and determined the appropriation falls in line with what ARPA funding is designed to do, namely, help towns recover from the negative economic impacts from the pandemic.

The funding can be used to help future developers and/or nonprofit organizations looking to build housing in town incorporate desired affordable housing units within project plans.
