The town's DPW and Take 2 Inc., a Waterbury-based electronics recycler, will be onsite to collect materials, free of charge.

The recycling event will be canceled if there is inclement weather on the day prior or on the day of the recycling event as DPW crews would be needed to plow and keep roads safe.

This post-holiday cardboard and e-waste recycling event is for West Hartford residents only.
No commercial waste is permitted.

This event is for cardboard and electronics only and all other disposal of recyclable items require an annual permit.

The town unveiled a list of guidelines associated with the event:

• Break down and fold cardboard boxes flat.

• Empty boxes of all Styrofoam, plastic bags and plastic film. Discard at home. Styrofoam is trash. Plastic film can be dropped off and recycled at many locations, click on link.

• Holiday string lights are e-waste and will be collected at this event (They are not allowed in curbside recycling barrel however.)

• E-waste is anything with a plug including phones, cameras, extension cords, TVs, computers, hair dryers, toasters and more.

Unacceptable e-waste includes items with Freon, such as air conditioners, dehumidifiers or mini-refrigerators.
