West Hartford Collecting Unwanted/Unused Prescription Drugs

The event on Saturday, Oct. 26, is part of National Take Back Day, where such drugs can be safely and legally disposed of at a local site.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Residents are invited to collect their expired and unwanted drugs and bring them to National Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 26.

That's when the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District will collect those drugs at Charter Oak International Academy, 425 Oakwood Ave. (entrance off Flatbush Avenue), from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The program is anonymous and free of charge. Volunteers will be on hand to take items from your vehicle.

National Take Back Day allows the public to dispose of expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medication in an environmentally safe manner.

When flushed, these drugs can contaminate waterways and, when used illegally, pose a potential risk to public health and safety.

Accepted items include Prescription and over-the-counter dosage medications, i.e. tablets, capsules, vaping products, and liquids.

Items not accepted include Intravenous solutions, injectable medicines, Epipens, and needles.

Folks should take pills out of prescription bottles for disposal. Sealed plastic bags are recommended.
