West Hartford Cops Denounce 'Fake' Thwarted Burglary Video

A video of a homeowner fending off a would-be thief was actually fake, West Hartford police said Wednesday.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford police Wednesday were denouncing a social media video post that purported to show a citizen beating up a would-be burglar.

The post appeared on the West Hartford Neighborhood Chat Facebook site, police said.

It depicted a "suspect" ringing a door bell, then trying to pick a lock to a local home, police said.

A "hero" homeowner then swooped in to the rescue and struck the apparent burglar in the head with a pipe, police said.

Local cops swooped in with a social media post of their own.

"The WHPD investigated this incident and determined that the interaction as depicted on the social media post did not occur," police said.
