West Hartford Crossing Guard Hailed as a Hero: Report

The crossing guard is credited with stopping a suspected distracted driver from entering a crosswalk with several children and parents in it

WEST HARTFORD – A West Hartford crossing guard is being hailed as a hero for stopping a suspected distracted driver from entering a pedestrian-filled crosswalk, according to We-Ha.com.

We-Ha reports that Marie Templeton, who has been a Smith STEM School crossing guard since 2013, was halting traffic last Tuesday afternoon so that about eight pedestrians, including children and their parents, could cross South Quaker Lane when she saw a car about to pass stopped cars on the right.

Templeton told We-Ha that she didn’t think the driver, described as a woman around 30 years old, was going to stop, so she yelled and waved her sign at the woman and told the pedestrians to “hold it.”

The driver, who Templeton said was looking down and possibly using her cellphone, managed to stop just in time before entering the crosswalk.
