West Hartford Eyes Land For Refuse Modernization Project
The town is also looking at the sites on Oakwood Avenue and Brixton Street to relocate firefighter training operations and animal control.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The town is looking to purchase nearly 2 acres of property in town as part of plans to modernize its waste management facility and, possibly, relocate some public safety operations there as well.
West Hartford is already working on a $1.37 million plan to create a so-called "material solutions center" at West Hartford's 25 Brixton St. transfer station facility.
Next up, however, is the purchase of nearly 2 acres of land on Oakwood Avenue and Brixton Street that could facilitate multiple town uses, including work as part of the waste management facility renovation.

The West Hartford Town Council is expected to vote tonight (July 14) on a measure to grant new West Hartford Town Manager Rick Ledwith the authority to negotiate with the sellers on the property purchase.
As part of the proposed resolution, the town would have to come up with a $136,750 deposit on the two sites (each 0.96 acres) toward a final purchase price of about $1.3 million.

The sites — one at 705 Oakwood Ave. and the other at 12 Brixton St. — are owned by Cunningham Brothers Realty LLC.
Already located across the street from the town's public works facility, the properties for sale would give West Hartford multiple options beyond just the recycling center project.
For example, the proposed resolution states the town could relocated some public safety facilities there, such as firefighter training operations and/or animal control.
The West Hartford Town Council meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at West Hartford Town Hall, with the property purchase on the agenda. It can be viewed online via Youtube as well.
