West Hartford FD Battles Apartment Building Blaze

The fire on Friday afternoon originated on the third floor of the four-story apartment building, fire officials said.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford firefighters rushed to a local apartment building Friday afternoon to battle a fire on the building's third floor.

According to the West Hartford Fire Department, at 3:37 p.m. Friday, dispatchers received a report of a potential blaze inside the four-story apartment complex at 98 Caya Ave. in West Hartford.

As a result, West Hartford firefighters and police were immediately dispatched.

Police units arrived and reported heavy smoke, the WHFD said, with fire department units arriving on scene at 3:43 p.m.

According to the WHFD, the fire was in a third-floor apartment, with the blaze reported knocked down by 3:52 p.m.

all building occupants had evacuated and no injuries were reported to either responders or civilians, the WHFD said.

The West Hartford Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the fire's origin and cause.

The West Hartford Building Official’s Office was evaluating the structure for whether the apartments can be re-occupied Friday night.

The WHFD said it appears the smoke and water damage is confined to the apartment of origin and other apartments will likely be suitable for occupancy.

"West Hartford Fire would like to thank our dispatchers, the West Hartford Police Department, and our mutual aid partners who assisted by covering the town while our units were committed to the fire," wrote WHFD Chief Greg H. Priest in a statement Friday evening.
