West Hartford Home Damaged In Overnight Fire: WHFD
All WHFD units rushed to the scene, with the single-family home suffering 'significant' damage.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — A home in West Hartford suffered significant smoke damage following an overnight fire that originated and was contained to the attic.
According to the West Hartford Fire Department, which issued a release Thursday morning on the blaze, firefighters were called to 22 Avondale Road at about 11:04 p.m. Wednesday for a reported structure fire.
"Upon arrival, fire crews observed heavy smoke coming from the roof line and gable end windows of a two-story, single-family home," wrote WHFD Deputy Chief John F. Sokolowski in a release.

He said the first arriving officer transmitted a working fire, which brought all five WHFD companies to the scene and mutual aid companies into town for coverage.
Firefighters said residents of the house confirmed that all occupants were out of the building, with the occupants stating that the fire was in the attic.

Firefighters initiated an interior attack while performing a primary search of the residence, Sokolowski said.
Additional companies stretched a second line to the fire area and performed an overhaul to check for any extension into the rest of the attic space, he said.
"Crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control," Sokolowski said, adding the fire was knocked down in minutes and declared under control at 11:30 p.m.
The WHFD stated that fire damage was confined to the attic area, although the home sustained significant smoke damage.
No firefighter injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office.
