West Hartford K-9 Team to be Honored at Fenway Park
Officer Lazure and K-9 Jett received the prestigious Wasson award and will also be honored before an upcoming Red Sox game.

West Hartford Police Officer Tom Lazure and K-9 Jett were honored Monday morning as the winners of the 2014 Daniel Wasson Memorial Canine Award.
The award was presented at the annual Connecticut Chiefs of Police Association meeting. It was the second time Officer Lazure and Jett have received this prestigious award from the Connecticut Police Work Dog Association. The first was in 2012.
Only one other K-9 team has been presented this award twice in the CPWDA’s 23-year history.

Lazure and Jett were involved in many cases throughout 2014, including K-9 deployments, apprehensions, and narcotic related activity.
“They also assisted the Hartford Police Department with the exceptional track and apprehension of a dangerous armed felon,” Lt. Ted Stoneburner said in a press release. “In that case the suspect was armed with a loaded 9 millimeter handgun but, because of the team’s efforts, not one officer was injured.”

K-9 Jett was also elected as one of the six Hero K-9’s from the New England area by the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association and its Foundation.
“We are honored that Jett will be recognized by the Boston Red Sox at a pre-game ceremony at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts,” Stoneburner said. “Officer Lazure and K-9 Jett continue a tradition of excellence in the West Hartford Police K-9 program.
“This is the fourth time that a member of the WHPD K-9 Unit has received the Daniel Wasson Memorial Award. We could not be more pleased with their efforts and hard work.”
