West Hartford Library Hosting Screening Of Film On Disabled Summer Campers
The Noah Webster Library in West Hartford will screen the 2020 film "Crip Camp" Saturday, Feb. 28, followed by a community discussion.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The Noah Webster Library will host a screening of the documentary Crip Camp on Saturday, Feb. 28, followed by a facilitated discussion.
The event is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. in the library’s meeting room at 20 S. Main St. Registration is required and will close at 1 p.m. on the day of the program.
The program, presented in partnership with the Town of West Hartford Office of Employee Development & Community Engagement, is open to adults.

Crip Camp examines the experiences of teenagers with disabilities at Camp Jened in the early 1970s.
The Catskills camp, described at the time as being “for the handicapped,” provided a space where campers experienced community and inclusion.

Many attendees later became involved in disability rights activism, including efforts centered in Berkeley, California, advocating for civil rights protections and broader societal change.
Library officials said the screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion.
Free parking is available in the Isham Garage during library visits. Individuals requiring accommodations are asked to contact the library at least two weeks before the program.
